High Court Honors Pro Bono Advocate Judge Catherine McEwen, '79
The Honorable Catherine Peek McEwen, political science '79 and Alumni Association Life Member, is the first recipient of the Chief Justice's Distinguished Federal Judicial Service Award. A U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge, she was recognized for outstanding and sustained public service for her commitment to pro bono legal aid.
Celebration of Life Planned for Longtime Int'l Studies Mentor
Joan Newcomb, who served as a mentor to generations of USF students, died Dec. 19 in Tampa. The former program assistant for the International Studies Program, she encouraged students to think globally no matter what their major. A celebration of her life is planned 1-3 p.m. Feb. 1 at the USF Tampa campus library's Grace Allen Room.
