Nick Schuyler, a University of South Florida graduate and the sole survivor of a 2009 boating accident that claimed the lives of three of his friends, now owns a gym and has shared his powerful story through two films—"Four Down" and "Not Without Hope"—which detail his survival, the tragedy, and his mission to inspire others to persevere through life's toughest challenges.
Hiram Ríos Hernández, a U.S. Foreign Service Officer currently serving as an Economic Officer in Lima, Peru, has earned multiple accolades for his career in diplomacy, including the 2025 Outstanding Young Alumni Award from USF, where he credits his success to the leadership opportunities and support he received during his time at the university.

In 1971, 25 men and women made history as the first class of medical students at the University of South Florida. They were pioneers in a new era of medical education, research and health care in the Tampa Bay area and beyond. As the college celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2024, it also honors its charter class, who paved the way for its success and excellence.
